Capricornia Catchments is proud to have delivered the Rubbish Removal in CQ’s Remote Regions project – aimed to increase community awareness and involvement in the removal and reduction of marine debris across Central Queensland’s coastline, focusing on regional and remote locations with high environmental value and limited public access.
Working alongside volunteers, community groups and project partners, we delivered beach clean-up events from Five Rocks and Farnborough Beach to Emu Park and the Keppel Islands. Together, we removed marine debris from some of the region’s most environmentally significant coastal areas, including important turtle nesting beaches and shorebird habitats, helping to protect wildlife and improve the health of our coastal environments.
Beyond removing rubbish, participants collected valuable data on the types and quantities of marine debris found, providing important information to support future education, source reduction initiatives and positive environmental behaviour. The project also encouraged local people to take an active role in caring for their environment, strengthening community stewardship and creating cleaner beaches for everyone to enjoy.
