The Five Rocks Beach Clean Up is a large community event committed to raising awareness and reducing the impacts of debris in marine and coastal environments including the Great Barrier Reef and Ramsar sites. Held annually, this event has grown to see more than seventy volunteers working across one weekend removing over a tonne of marine debris from remote beaches adjacent to internationally significant Shoalwater and Corio Bays. The Five Rocks Beach Clean Up aims to promote environmental stewardship through educational presentations and informs source reduction plans through data collection. It is the result of a collaborative effort between multiple individuals and community groups. Capricornia Catchments, supported by ReefClean, Australian Government, Tangaroa Blue and Livingstone Shire Council, facilitates logistics and overall event coordination, including risk management, data collection and reporting.
