Great Cane Toad Bust 2026 | Capricornia Catchments

Capricornia Catchments brought the community together for a Great Cane Toad Bust at the Rockhampton Golf Club, helping reduce cane toad numbers while raising awareness of their impacts on our local environment.

With the help of an enthusiastic group of local participants, 127 cane toads weighing a combined 20.3 kg were removed in a single night, with the largest toad weighing an impressive 290 g.

Importantly, native frogs were also observed during the event, including the Desert Tree Frog (Litoria rubella). Continued cane toad control can help reduce pressure on native species and provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about identifying and protecting our local wildlife.

The event demonstrated what can be achieved through practical, community-led environmental action, with local residents and Councillor Elliot Hilse joining the effort.

Every toad removed makes a difference towards protecting Central Queensland’s native wildlife and ecosystems.
